They come in like clock-work, rarely missing an appointment and just being great patients. And yet it’s easy to take them for granted. You count on your base of solid patients to keep your practice running and busy. So what have you done for them lately?
Nurses help you navigate your way through a complex and often confusing health-care system. This is particularly important if you receive a diagnosis of cancer or other serious illness.
Sitting in a wheelchair should be comfortable. The seat cushion and back should provide support and comfort to the patient. Armrests should not be hard and stiff or cause bruising. Leg rests should support the calves without rubbing. Feet need support and comfort as well. Soft foot rests or metal ones can be used, depending on the needs of the patient. Those wearing sturdy shoes, like sneakers, do not need extra cushions. These will only get in the way and may push up the knees to an uncomfortable angle during transport. For those wearing slippers or going barefoot on a regular basis, something soft to prop the feet on is a welcome addition. Feet cushions on wheelchairs can be attached as needed for bedtime or bathing. All of these items are accessible mpi homecare medical supplies.
Don’t forget to factor in the restrictions that your insurance company imposes. You’ll be surprised how many there are. For instance, will your provider only insure particular types of CPAP devices?
When selecting your CPAP, do some checks to help you to breathe easier. Ensure that the FDA, or Food and Drug Administration, has approved the machine. Furthermore, you must secure a doctor’s prescription.
Actually, it was my decision to leave the reservation that brought my boyfriend to my assistance. I called in my resignation knowing an Indian lady would take my place, as she was next in line for the job. We piled all my belongings, mostly clothes, into the volkswagen and left the reservation. I left behind my few pieces of furniture, including my book collection, in the house, hoping the Indians could use them. I know they were probably grateful one of their tribe had the job, I hope, and that they had some interesting textbooks for their library or for whomever occupied the dwelling after I left.
I’d better research my ancestry; my grandmother was from Phoenix when there was almost nothing there. But the Navajo and Apache Indians had already inhabited that territory before the white man came. Wouldn’t it be a surprise to find just a touch of American Indian in my background.
